The final verdict is in behind The Sun’s rumor-driven story of a Beaconsfield Chinese Restaurant closing due to James Corden’s lack of patronage: false.
The Sun had originally reported a bakery down the street from the China Diner was closing, with staff blaming Corden, who used to live and still owns the flat above the shops, spending more time away in London. They followed up on Day 2 with the Chinese rumor.
We thought something smelled fishy with the Chinese Story. And once again, our apologies to Ms. Looi for insinuating her name was phony.
We’re glad to consider this thread case-closed.

Jon, This is Pui from the China Diner. You are forgiven for saying that I am ‘phony’. Since the story came out last week in The Sun we at the China Diner have been on a roller coaster ride with my loyal customers and the press asking whether the story is true. Whilst we love James Corden, China Diner as well as our customers find it incredibly surprising that James could keep me in business. China Diner has been open for 30 years and we have a great customer base. Obviously we value James’s custom, but if he has moved to London then we wish him all the best in the future. But the final comment from China Diner is we are NOT going BUST or ON THE BRINK OF GOING BELLY UP!!!!
Thanks Pui.
We had a feeling the story was a bit off from the beginning.
Glad to hear the restaurant is in great shape.
Thanks for writing in – best wishes in the future.
