James Corden + Patrick Stewart Fight at Awards Show

Corden and Sir Patrick Stewart got into a bit of an odd, awkward, on-stage spat at last night’s Glamour Woman-of-the-Year Awards in London.

Frankly, we’re a bit miffed, as we love both James and Sir Patrick and in fact, say “shame” on both.

Mr. Stewart should never have gone on his tirade and rant, but Corden should also not have responded. Sure it’s tough to let a fellow actor stomp all over your honor, but it makes you look less like an idiot.

In case you missed the fight:

Up untill now I thought James Corden was amusing especially as Smithy but after the attempt to show up one of the worlds best actors just for a laugh then he deserves to fade away into the backround sooner than would be inevitable anyway.Patrick Stewart had a very good point when he said that corden shouldnt be stood like he was in the backround. you only have to watch any awards show and the host stands very respectful in the backround waiting for the person presenting the awards to finish not slouch and look utterly bored.Patrick only came back with the fat remark after realising that corden was trying to show him up and his only fault is he is not good at mindless childish behaviour as he is an exceptional actor something corden could never be.Corden should appologise and think himself lucky he gets any celebrity work at all.

James Corden is nothing more than arrogant chancer, who for some reason has been given a few opportunities recently. He’s got a quick head on his shoulders which makes him mildly entertaining. There’s no real talent however and the showbiz world will soon move on without him. In five years time he’ll fade into the depths of youtube.

Do you know when you see someone on TV and for no reason, you can’t stand them, well for me…this guy is one of them. James Corden has got to be the most over-rated, 3rd class idiot on our TV screens. His face pops up everywhere, even charity football events, he’s a self-centred opportunistic. When I watch how he spoke to Sir Patrick Stewart on the BBC news website, I realised yet again why I can’t stand this guy. I was disgusted the way he treated one of Britain’s most well renowned actors. Sir Patrick is one of The United Kingdom’s greatest actors of our time and for this ‘clown’ to even share the same stage as him was a disgrace, how dare he… shame on him. It beggars belief who or why anyone would pay good money to go and watch this so called comedian or even buy this idiot’s DVD’s. He is a disgrace to England, I’m sure his family are really proud of him tonight. I’ll say it again… OVERRATED IDOT!!!

What a terrible shame it was to see someone the industry used to regard as a great actor attacking James Corden at last nights Glamour awards. I used to regard Patrick very highly but after this incident he has fallen in my estimation greatly.

I’m not sure this is the right forum to express my frustrations at Patricks outburst but such was my desire to vent my feelings.

If the kind people reading this e-mail are close enough in any way to Patrick (not the cc’s), please remind him of this. James Corden is a highly regarded, charismatic and generally great entertainer. He has in recent years continued to produce hit after hit in a diverse and talented manner. To attack such a highly regarded and loved celebrity about his weight and belly has undoubtedly sealed a nail in to Patrick’s nose-diving career coffin, shame on you and your shiny head Patrick!

Furthermore, as far as I’m concerned you were the reject captain off of Star Trek, that’s it! I didn’t even watch it and on the odd occasion i did, it was Captain Kirk episodes anyway!

I suggest an apology, publicly I may add, however this is only my humble opinion and I doubt that it will ever happen.

One more thing Patrick, you got gunned on that stage and made to look a bloody fool. Isn’t Karma great. Check the link!

WOw! AN apology from Patrick Stewart? I for one am really happy someone stood up to James Corden and made him look like the overrated, untalented, omnipotent (unfortunately), desperate, needy and desperately unfunny “comedian” that he is. For a long time Ive placed him in the same mental “Switch over the channel whenever they are on” group that also includes Chris Moyles and Johnny Vegas. I wont accept anyone saying Im picking on them for their physical appearance either, what they have in comon is an unflinching self belief in their own limited talents and an agent who’s really earning their money right now but will soon move on. I wish I could turn on my TV and see this shower a lot less, really i do, theyre rubbish.

Yet another fat, talentless twat finding his way onto the ever diluted British media. The only real sahme about all this is that he’s representative of a large portion of the nation. Fat, uneducated, loutish and about as well read as a 9 year old. I couldn’t give a crap ‘who’ he tries to insult, the fact it was someone worthy of a Knighthood is irrelevant to me. My problem is he makes me ashamed to be associated with Britain.

Corden is not funny. He supplies the type of borderline entertainment appreciated by the retards who wait in to watch the national lottery live and crap like deal or no deal.

As far as I am concerned they were both in the wrong, James should not have said the things that he did but at the same time I do not see the need to publicly bully and embarrass someone and that in my opinnion is what happened. People should not be publicly riduculed because of their weight or age I feel they should both be very ashamed of themselves whether they are big stars or not it is not the example that I would expect them to set for the general public.

Firstly, this is a James Corden FAN site…so if your not a fan, why waste your time?
As a famous and well regarded actor, Patrick’s behaviour was totally uncalled for and to be quite honest pathetic. He was abusive and rude, and there was definitely no need to try and publicly humiliate James like that. There is never any excuse for that sort of behaviour, no matter how much you dislike someone.
Maybe James shouldn’t have necessarily retaliated the way he did, but good on him for not letting Patrick think he can get away with saying whatever he wants because of his status!
It just shows that Patrick is a bully and pathetic.
James, you have a massive fanbase and you are quite clearly funny, otherwise you wouldn’t be where you are today :)

I’m very surprised at a lot of these derisory comments against James Corden on a so-called fansite. Obviously those who have posted the teenage-like anti-James comments DO actually regard him otherwise they wouldn’t waste their precious wank-time posting messages ABOUT him. But then, teenage boys with no talents, no skills, and no life prospects have to find someone to lash out on.

I for one, feel very sympathetically towards James. You can clearly see from his reaction that he is non-plussed and upset by the unprovoked attack from a so-called highly regarded actor who is generally only known for his Stark Trek portrayal – nothing highbrow about that. Patrick obviously thought he was being witty and clever but it just came across as rude, obnoxious and a man very much in a desperate end to a rather forgetful career. Whereas James behaved in a much more restrained manner than a lot of men would, ie. most men would have knocked Patrick’s head off, and rightly so. Patrick repeatedly said he could see Jame’s belly, well actually Patrick we can easily see your greasy malformed bald head which is highly unpleasant for all of us, but we have the good grace not to mention it, including James who could have been as obnoxious back if he chose. The only one who showed himself up as being a complete arsehole was Sir Patrick, and what a joke that title is! It seems when he was given that title he decided to really shove himself deep up his own arse.

So, to James – you did yourself proud. Handling an unprovoked attack like that is difficult, and hurtful when someone misinterprets your genuine desire to just be friendly and entertain people…its not your fault the industry is filled with egotistical arseholes, the world is, just take a look at the ignorant posts on this site.. so good on you James, you did good!! Much love x

I have never been a fan of James Corden but I have to say he held himself remarkably well over this incident and has gone way up in my estimation. Despite the fact that I personally found Gavin and Stacy totally unfunny it has to be the most critically aclaimed comedy of recent years and if nothing else James will be remembered for that, Stewart on the other hand will be remembered for stepping into William Shatners shoes and for a bit of ham acting in the theatre. What really annoys me about the whole incident is that I still havent seen James Corden’s belly!

I quite like Corden based on his panel show appearances, particularly A League of Their Own; seems a down to earth and funny enough bloke. I’m indifferent towards G&S but to both star and write such a show makes it apparent that the guy has talent. Patrick Stewart’s comments may have been justified but the place to air them was not on the stage, Corden was clearly taken aback and both his comments ans Stewart’s retorts were awkward and unfunny. I’m sure most people are disappointed with Stewart though as he’s been around long enough to know better. Before watching the video I guessed it would perhaps be a planned wind-up by the two of them, as they have both proved to be willing to send themselves up in the past, but alas no.

PS re: Loosi’s comments above… You are typing extremely well for somebody clearly under the influence of mind-altering narcotics. Only known for his Start Trek role and coming to the end of a forgetful career? I won’t bother elaborating on how embarassingly incorrect those statements are, the interwebs can fill you in.

In answer to why the negative posts are appearing on this site, I would imagine that everyone else has just done the same as me – a google search to try and find out what the hell went on, which has led to this site. Blame the good search engine optimisation!

Back to the main point, I don’t dislike James Corden but am firmly of the opinion that he should have shown Patrick Stewart a great deal more respect than he did. As the host it was his responsibility to keep proceedings on track, not cause them to spiral into a childish spat, and for that reason I believe that James was firmly in the wrong.

Corden was getting laughs at everyone else’s expense at the awards show and his comments were all very obvious and unimaginative – so he deserved to have someone poke fun at him in the same crass way. If he’d been polite I doubt anything any of this would’ve happened. It annoys me that the press have chosen to celebrate Cordens behaviour as reasonable when he doesn’t deserve any praise for what he did. I won’t be watching him any more.

Wow there are a lot of people with some insane anger issues on here…esp as they’ve bothered to find a JC fansite to rant on…search engine or not =/

Anyways, regardless of what I think of Corden…Stewart was just plain rude. If he’d said it to anyone else I would still view what he was saying was hurtful and uncalled for.

The first part simply sounded like he was a little drunk and decided to give Corden a naughty boy telling off for what he saw as bad manors…Corden sounded sincere enough in his apology and tried to move it on with a “joke”…funny or not, that should really have been the end of it.

I think Cordens replies were a little strained, but in his shoes I would have been a little lost for words myself…not to mention embarrassed, irate and totally baffled as to what Stewart was thinking.

The whole thing was just bizarre.

  51. June 10, 2010 at 1:23 pm | Permalink

Regardless of what you think of James Corden or Patrick Stewart, how on earth can this be James Corden’s fault? Sure he might have been better not to react, but he’s human, and I can’t imagine many of you out there would have reacted any differently to being humiliated on stage on one of the biggest nights of your career to date.
Patrick Stewart launched an attack on James Corden, that is a FACT – the rest of the stuff on here is just opinion and most shows a lack of class akin to that of ‘sir’ patrick stewart.

I think James really took his small personality too far on this occasion and i actually like most of his material and think he is normally a good guy. But at the start when he was messing around behind Sir patrick, a man who has been knighted and is a legendary actor, he should be respected rather than made to look a bit of a fool while he’s trying to present an award. Then when Sir patrick in effect told him to stop acting like the class idiot in the background, James corden then agressively swore right in the face of sir patrick. would you do that to any other elderly gentleman? especially one who had been knighted and is a legend? No, james was completely out of line and if i was Sir patrick i would have ripped James to pieces because he really overstepped the mark

Haha I love how people use such big words when they bitch on the internet. In fact I bet the merriam-websters and collins of the world will soon be among the most profitable companies on Earth what with the rise of youtube and sites like this one!

Quite frankly I think both of them were wrong. James for biting and Patrick for being a little bit condescending. But both of them will be around for time to come because they’re both highly regarded in their fields. At the end of the day James Corden wouldn’t be on TV if people didn’t enjoy watching him, and the people that disagree are the ones who whine about the value of Big Brother in society and then switch over to the Discovery channel to watch Mythbusters believing that it’s “high brow” and intelligent programming.

Hang on I’ll get my thesaurus out to put that last paragraph into internet speak.

Forthrightly I believe that both Mr. Corden and Sir Patrick were reciprocally culpable, Mr. Corden’s ineloquent attempt at a rebuttal and Sir Patrick for his tactless diatribe and denunciation of Mr. Corden’s body language and manner. Mr. Corden and Sir Patrick will both be around in the foreseeable future because they’re both well thought-of in their professions, as a wit and as a master of the Thespian arts respectively. Alas, the medium of television and the driving forces behind it are in all probability the most lucid examples of natural selection and Darwinism that one can imagine in the modern era. If Mr. Corden was thought unfit to command a position at the round table of so many prime-time shows he would not be so visible and still growing, n’est ces pas?

Yes I agree, writing such a large comment at this time of night is pathetic and sad. However, I work shifts and often find myself arriving home well after midnight and if I was lucky enough to be treated to the likes of Gavin and Stacey or In a League of Their Own at this time of night I wouldn’t be sad enough to sit and write this. But no, what do I get to watch??? GCSE Bitesize, Supercasino or fucking Sign Zone! So think yourselves bastarding lucky to have a shitting choice whether to watch him or not!

We the masses, with a modicum of education and cultural awareness think that you, James Corden, are an arrogant, egotistical, INEXPLICABLY vain, cunt. Your self love and arrogance oozes from you like the greasy sweat from your brow. This is clear to us. This is why you are hated. It is not because you are fat. There are many overweight stars who are loved and whose weight is never mentioned. We hate your soul. We hate that every time you do an interview showing your ‘sensitive side’ we can see this is yet another soulless and shallow attempt to be loved and pitied. We sense that your vision of the world is some kind of sick popularity contest where anyone who stands in your way must be destroyed, their girlfriends fingered, while you smile sweetly at their mothers and slowly ascend to your corrupt goals. Note to all the people leaving harsh comments on here; Do you not have anything more productive to be getting on with? You profess to hate James but you spend an awful lot of time and effort on him, visiting this page and leaving comments. In my opinion, James is doing better for himself than most of us leaving comments here, Sir Patrick Stewart’s behaviour was very odd and I think he ended up looking like a fool. It was an unprovoked dig that wasn’t funny. Actors should stick to acting and leave the funnies to the comedians. Whatever you think of James, you can’t argue with his success.

Needless to say he won’t be asked back and he can kiss good bye to Hollywood, Patrick Stewart is one of our most successful, respected actors over there, Corden couldn’t get a job waiting on tables in LA now.

I firstly want to point out i am no Trekkie, i dont like the show but have admired Stewarts performances in films and TV.
I have watched all of the Gavin and Staceys and found them amusing. (I didnt enjoy the sketch show Corden and Horne though!)

Having seen the clips it is obvious that Corden was slouching and showing little respect to the award presenters. It was innappropriate of Stewart to mention this during the show but even more inapropriate for Corden to bite and react. What suprised me was the inability of Corden to be witty or amusing in his retorts and just looked like he was out of his depth. I never expected Stewart to be funny ….and he wasnt. It has made me realise the Corden isnt as talented as i thought he was, is not quick thinking and has a slightly nasty side. I think this was a case of Corden being lazy but beginning to realise the more i see of him that “Smithy” is not a character Corden plays but is a large facet of his true personality, intellect, looks and skill.

Well a lot of mixed opinions here.
Firstly Corden should not have been standing around and looking like he didnt give a fuck, but Sir Patrick should have spoke to him back stage rather than infront of the audience. I do however have more respect for Sir Patrick now which i didnt think possible, he most certainly wasn’t the only person annoyed by Cordens atitude but he had the balls to say something. For those of you who love Corden he isnt multi-talented he is at times funny but in n o way does he compare to the greats like sir patrick stuart, anyone can act on camera but to be a great stage performer requires real talent. stuart will be remembered long afte rhis death but corden will fade within the next 10 years, he’l be lucky if people want to give him work after shaming himself.

James Corden – Seen him a lot on ITV recently, seems they’re really pushing him as their next big ‘star’. Anyway, I’ve hated this obese knob head since I first saw him on TV. He’s talentless, completely unfunny and I just find fat people like him unpleasant to look at, especially on TV. Something about them says they have no control over themselves and can’t stop scoffing all the pies, not to mention the hygiene issues they suffer from. Fucking gross.

So to hear this absolute nobody, who’s short career to date has mostly consisted on getting his podgy round face on game shows and reality shows or making shit films (Lesbian Vampire Killers?) speak to such an accomplished man as Sir Patrick Stewart in this way really helped to justify my (until then) inexplicable hatred of James Corden.

Whether you like James Corden or not, you cannot justify the pointless and unjustified attack from Patrick Stewart. I don’t care who he is, what titles he has or where he has been educated, no one should feel they have the right to belittle another person in a public for no good reason. Patrick needs to get off his sanctimonious high-horse! Are people missing the point? It’s not about James earning the credibility to somehow have the right to ‘answer’ Patrick back, by proving himself as a legend. It’s about someone who was provoked for no good reason having the right to defend himself in the moment! Well done to James for defending his honour, which is what most people would do in such unprovoked circumstances. Patrick, you showed yourself up! And FYI, I’m not a fan of either man.

So when he’s given the simple job of presenting an award to someone WORTHY he shits that up as well.

Stewart = massively talented Shakespearean actor of well-deserved legendary status. Corden = talentless fat git who’s done a bit of telly. End of.

Corden is representative, an icon of how unfunny morons have taken over comedy, true legends like Tony Hancock must be turning interior grave, not that I expect many Corden fans to of heard of Tony.

Praise in public and admonish in private is the rule. Patrick could have made a lesser comment like Pay attention you man and even wispered it perhaps. Its just never ok to make someone less.

Patrick made a huge mistake by insulting James in the first place. Since when has he evr hosted an award ceremony? And then to pick on someone because of thier weight is just a cruel underhand blow, I understand why Patrick’s fans would be upset by the way James handled himself But he was only defending himself after being insulted for no reason by Patrick. All in all I think this was a stupid argument caused by Patrick making some stupid remarks and James replying harshly. I feel Dissapointed for both of them.
